Watch: Sofía Vergara Responds to Joe Manganiello’s Claims About Why Their Marriage Ended
Sofía Vergara is calling out what she sees as red flag behavior.
The Modern Family alum, whose ex-husband Joe Manganiello recounted the demise of their marriage in a newly-published excerpt from his forthcoming memoir Bloodlines, reshared a pair of cryptic posts on social media—including one that put a spotlight on toxic behaviors.
Vergara reposted a chart originally shared by her son Manolo Vergara, 35, who she shares with Joe Gonzalez, comparing a “good man” to “a narcissistic man” to her Instagram Stories Oct. 9.
“Remember kids,” her son wrote on top of the graphic, “when dealing with a narcissist, it doesn’t matter how much you do for them, because they will resent you for it, and nothing will ever be enough and they’ll always somehow try to paint you as the bad guy.”
The chart itself claimed that narcissistic men “gaslight,” “blameshift,” “lie” and “play the victim,” among other tendencies.
Vergara also reshared a quote originally posted by Tom Brady that “the ability to laugh at oneself is probably the highest form of intelligence” and that “the inability to laugh at oneself is a sure sign you’re dealing with an idiot.”
The 54-year-old’s cryptic reposts come after an advance excerpt from his memoir Bloodlines published by People detailed the toll that his seven-year battle with a mysterious autoimmune disease took on all aspects of his life—including their relationship.
In addition to saying that their marriage became “devoid of any emotionality whatsoever,” he also claimed that Vergara wouldn’t hug him, even if he requested it of her.

He ultimately found solace in his 5-lb chihuahua Bubbles, a sickly puppy he adopted in 2019. In the Oct. 7 interview with People, he credited the small pup with helping him during bouts of suicidal ideation, although he says in the book that Vergara would make comments about the dog.
The former couple also struggled with starting a family, a topic both of them have touched on before, with Manganiello writing in his memoir that after failed IVF attempts left them considering an egg donor.
However, as he was navigating with a serious illness he didn’t want to die and leave Vergara, with whom he split in 2023, with a child “who wasn’t biologically hers.”
For the True Blood alum, recounting the breakdown of their marriage and his illness in his memoir proved a way to tell his own narrative, telling People, “There were things said and printed about me that were false.”
