Watch: Prince Harry Calls Move Back to the U.K. With Meghan Markle and Kids “Eventful”
Meghan Markle is catching up with an old friend.
In her first public appearance since moving back to the United Kingdom with her husband Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex enjoyed an afternoon tea with activist Malala Yousafzai at Claridgeâs in London.
For the Oct. 8 outing Meghan donned a long brown coat, cream sweater and white wide-legged trousers. She paired the polished look with pointed-toe flats and a Logan Hollowell emerald necklace worth $21,150.
Meanwhile, Malala donned a tan blazer, striped pants and a camel-colored headscarf.
After lunch, the pair chatted outside the historic hotel, before sharing a friendly hug as they parted ways.
Indeed, Meghan, 45, and Malala, 29, have history spanning back years. The Suits alum and Harry, 42, sat down with the Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 2020 for a virtual discussion marking International Day of the Girl.
“Meghan and I are on the same page,” Malala wrote on X at the time. “We both believe that when girls have access to education, everyone wins.”
And children’s education is a cause close to Meghan’s heart. In fact, she and Harry were keen to have their kids Archie Harrison, 7, and Lilibet “Lili” Diana, 5, continue their schooling amid the family’s temporary relocation to England.
âItâs been great to be back on British soil,” Harry told CTV News in September. “The kids are happy in school.”

However, they have faced some roadblocks, criticizing British paparazzi camping outside their children’s school. After transferring Archie and Lili to a different school than the one they were initially enrolled in due to security concerns, the couple’s rep called out photographers over their “extraordinarily reckless” behavior.
âThere is a world of difference between legitimate media activity and photographers walking around the perimeter of a school, stopping to look into the grounds and monitoring children as they go about their day,” the spokesperson said in a Sept. 30 statement to E! News. “Whatever photographs they may have been seeking, this was not only an unacceptable intrusion into the privacy of all children; it was also an irresponsible and ill-considered way to conduct themselves in the vicinity of a school.â
