Watch: Margaret Qualley Reveals What’s More Important Than Finding Love
Love doesn’t always need someone else to be real.
After starring in the upcoming movie Love of Your Life, Margaret Qualley reflected on whether finding one’s soulmate is truly the ultimate goal.
“There’s this beautiful line towards the end of the movie that Catherine Keener’s character says, which is about falling in love with your own life,” she told E! News’ Will Marfuggi in an exclusive interview. “I think the nature of suffering is wanting something and not having it and being able to accept what you do have.”
As the 31-year-old noted, “Sometimes that’s really easy, and sometimes that’s really, really hard. But getting better at letting go and falling, and coming to terms with where you are, and finding the beauty in that, and the love in that.”
Indeed, Qualley’s costar and onscreen love interest Aaron Pierre also emphasized that sometimes the experience of falling in love is more valuable than the end result.
“Margaret mentioned some time ago,” the Lanterns star said, “she has a dear friend who skateboards, and how when he falls, he falls so easily because it’s become practice for him to sort of fall forwards. That the evolution is on the other side of that.”
In fact, that lesson is one his character, Felix, learned in real time.

“He embodied this presence that was of somebody who had accepted that the best course of action was to relinquish control,” Pierre explained. “He had realized that he didn’t have nearly as much control over his life that he wanted to have, and actually, when he relinquished that control entirely and just sort of allowed life to take him wherever it was going to take him, that’s where he found the most peace within the context of his experience.”
For the actor, “That was something that was really exciting.”
As for Qualley—who split from husband Jack Antonoff earlier this year—it was what she found on the page for her character Maya that drew her to the film.
“I loved Julia Cox‘s script,” she said. “I loved how complicated and messy Maya’s journey through love and loss and accepting her life was.”
