Watch: Keri Russell’s Daughter Willa, 13, Makes First Ever Public Appearance at Paris Fashion Week
Keri Russell plans to have Matthew Rhys as her forever partner in crime, but calling him husband one day isnât likely.
Although the couple has been together for nearly 13 years, the Diplomat actressâwho was previously married to Shane Deary from 2007 to 2014âdoesnât feel the need to tie the knot with Rhys.
âIâve had a big party,â Russell explained on the Oct. 8 episode of Chelsea Handler‘s Dear Chelsea podcast. âI get to dress up all the time. And I know for a lot of people, marriage is something different.â
âPeople used to have to be married to have a credit card,â she continued. âWe can have credit cards now. I donât need my last name to go away.â
As she emphasized, âIâm cool. If you want to be here, be here. If you donât, thatâs cool too.â
But while the 50-year-old and partner arenât married by law, that doesnât mean they donât have a long-term commitment in place. After all, Russell and Rhys share son Sam, 10.
âP.S., we have kids, so thatâs forever,â Russellâalso mom to son River, 19, and daughter Willa, 14, with ex Dearyâemphasized. âTo me, itâs antiquated.â
Though the Waitress star and Widowâs Bay actor first met in 2002, they didnât reconnect until 10 years later, on the set of The Americans, in which they played married KGB intelligence officers.

And shortly after Russellâs separation from Deary in 2013, she and Rhys sparked romance rumors, later confirming their relationship. While they havenât tied the knot, the pair have addressed the possibility on more than one occasion over the years.
Last year, Rhys put it simply, telling The Times, âwe literally havenât got round to marriage yet.â
