Nintendo shut down the service this week

If you weren’t already aware, Nintendo has now officially shut down its free-to-play mobile game Mario Kart Tour.
As highlighted by Mobilegamer.biz, market intelligence platform AppMagic has shared some lifetime data about the title, which launched on 25th September 2019.
According to this site, the title is estimated to have been downloaded over 276 million times and is believed to have banked around $268.5 million for Nintendo. The game’s downloads apparently peaked in the launch month, and in-app purchase revenue hit an all-time high a month after this in the same year.
Mario Kart Tour was reportedly earning “around $650k per month” when the shut down was announced. US players are said to be the main driver of in-app purchases, making up 39% of the game’s lifetime revenue.
If you boot up the game, you’ll be presented with a screen notifying you about how the service for the title has officially ended and a message thanking everyone for playing. Nintendo has also released a “final Mario Kart Tour report” on social media, summarising player data.
In an official FAQ, Nintendo has stated there are no plans for an “offline version” of Mario Kart Tour.
