Toss a cart to your Witcher
CD Projekt Red went all-in on its promise to bring The Witcher III: Wild Hunt – Remastered to all those who owned the base game, digital or otherwise. But it seems we Switch 2 players might be able to get in on the full game for free, if you have the chance to borrow Wild Hunt’s Switch 1 cartridge for a moment (thanks to @Wario64 for the heads up).
As shared on Reddit earlier this week by Erik_REF, those with access to a physical copy of the Switch 1 game can use it to download a free full copy of the Remaster on as many systems as they’d like. The best part is, unlike a Game-Key Card, you don’t need the cartridge in your Switch 2 to play the remastered version.

This means that you could, in principle, borrow a copy of the Switch 1 physical from your local library / a friend / pick it up cheap second-hand, use it to download the Switch 2 remaster, and then return the cart without needing it again to play.
Reddit user Howwy23 even shared a video of the cart-less boot-up in action, confirming that you don’t need the S1 cart in your console to play the remaster (once it has finished downloading, of course).
It’s a mighty handsome upgrade, too. Early reviews across all platforms seem generally positive, and our side-by-side footage shows just how much of a visual facelift the new version has received.
Heck, if you can get your hands on a Switch 1 cart for a second and play the whole thing for free, what’s not to like?
