Watch: Mandy Moore Breaks Silence on Ashley Tisdale’s Toxic Mom Group Essay
Christopher French has been sticking to the status quo.
The Annie Automatic musician shared that he and his wife Ashley Tisdale haven’t let the backlash over her essay about breaking up with her “toxic mom group” affect their day-to-day lives.
“We’re doing fine,” French told Page Six in an interview published Sept. 30. “She’s a super smart, capable person, and she knows what she’s doing and that’s part of what I love about her.”
In fact, the Recovering podcast host—who shares daughters Jupiter, 5, and Emerson, 2, with Tisdale—said that he never felt the need to get involved in the controversy.
“I have no problem supporting my wife completely in her ability to deal with her own interpersonal relationships in whatever way [she] feels is right for her,” French explained, “without getting involved or feeling like I have to speak for her.”
Describing Tisdale as a “really smart chick” and “a very capable person,” the composer noted that understanding where her heart was at is part of “what made it so hard.”
French added, “We are very private, but in speaking to something that really matters to her.”
Back in January, Tisdale detailed her decision to leave her circle of fellow moms in a viral article for The Cut, alleging she gradually felt “frozen out of the group” as she caught glimpses of the other members hanging out without her on social media.
And while the High School Musical alum didn’t name any names in her piece, many theorized that she was referencing her famous pals Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore and Meghan Trainor, who are also parents and whose friendship with Tisdale had been well-documented online.

Shortly after, however, a rep for Tisdale denied that her essay was about any of the three women. But that didn’t seem to stop the rumor from spreading.
Indeed, Moore has since spoken out about Tisdale’s words, saying she was hurt by the story’s implications.
“The most important thing in my life is being a kind person,” the This Is Us alum said during a May episode of SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, “and that legacy of kindness and anyone even insinuating that that might not be the case—and with the company that I choose to keep—is very upsetting.”
And Duff echoed the sentiment, sharing on an episode of Call Her Daddy in February that the situation made her “really sad.”
“It sucks to read something that’s not true,” the Lizzie McGuire star continued, “and it sucks on behalf of like six women and all of their lives.”
