Singer Nivea Says Her Cancer Is in Remission During Health Update

Watch: Singer Nivea Shares Cancer Diagnosis at 44

Nivea is on the mend.

More than two months after the “Don’t Mess With My Man” singer shared that she had been diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year, she confirmed that she is now in remission.

“I’m very grateful,” Nivea said on the Oct. 7 episode of The Tamron Hall Show alongside her oncologist Dr. Colin Vale. “I couldn’t believe it because this happened to me this year only a few months ago.”

She has been participating in a clinical trial for her chronic myeloid leukemia diagnosis, which includes taking two FDA-approved targeted medications daily.

The 44-year-old (born Nivea B. Hamilton) admitted that she was apprehensive about being part of a trial for her cancer treatment.

“I said, ‘I don’t want a trial. I want the real stuff. I can pay for it,'” she recalled. “I was losing it. That was the only thing I tripped out about.”

Singer Nivea Shares Cancer Diagnosis at 44

After learning about the drug’s success rate with other patients, the “Complicated” singer—who shares daughter Navy Nash, 21, and 20-year-old twins London Nash and Christian Nash with ex The-Dream, as well as son Neal Carter, 16, with ex Lil Wayne—was willing to take the leap.

“It’s been an adjustment, like the symptoms,” she began, “I’m tired a lot. I have other issues. I’m bleeding. I have fibroids. It’s a long little list.”

However, she is grateful for this next chapter in her life, emphasizing, “I’m still on the better side than most. I’m not complaining at all.”

Nivea shared her cancer diagnosis in July, confirming that her treatment would not include chemotherapy since it was not a blastoma.

I’m blessed with the ability to still do what I love—music, continue to mother my children, and learn new skills that fuel me!”

“I am and have been very blessed in this life and won’t ever take it for granted,” she concluded. “A tremendous thank you to everyone for the love [and] prayers.”
