Watch: Bryan Cranston Details Final Texts With RJ Mitte Before His Death
RJ Mitte’s loved ones are still grappling with his loss.
Four days after the Breaking Bad star’s death from suicide, his mom Dyna Mitte shared insight into the day he died, including what led to her discovering his body.
“I called him at 11. He didn’t answer,” Dyna told NBC News, adding that RJ often slept until noon so she hadn’t been concerned. “I picked up lunch and went to take it to him, and that’s when I discovered him.”
Dyna shared she thinks RJ’s decision to take his own life was “spur of the moment,” noting he hadn’t left a note. As for the 34-year-old’s mental health at the time, Dyna shared he’d been navigating issues “that he was very hurt over.”
Because of this, Dyna said she’d been encouraging RJ—who shared his engagement to Kennedy Suarez in the fall of 2025—to seek professional help.
“For the last three months,” she said, “I’d been offering for him to go to therapy, trying to get him to go there, but he was like, ‘No, I’ve got it. It’s OK. I’m handling it.’”
Now, she wishes she’d dragged him there “screaming and yelling.”
But amid her and her family’s heartbreak, Dyna is hoping she might be able to create some good.

“If me speaking out today might save someone else from going through the same situation, because a mother should never have to find their child this way,” she said. “If I can say one person is helped, I think that’s what RJ would expect.”
In the meantime, Dyna is learning to navigate her grief.
“We all go through heartbreak in our life and we all deal with it differently,” she said. “If I had known anything and could have done anything different, I truly would have. I would have given my life for his life.”
RJ was best known for his work as Walter White Jr. in Breaking Bad, son to Bryan Cranston’s Walter and Anna Gunn’s Skyler. (RJ’s onscreen parents have each expressed their devastation at his sudden death.)

The series, according to Dyna, was a continuous bright spot in her son’s life, calling it an “incredible, incredible experience.”
“He truly, truly loved each and every cast member, each and every crew member,” she said. “I couldn’t have asked for him to learn from anyone better.”
And she hopes the AMC drama will be one of the many legacies for which RJ will be remembered.
“I just want him to be remembered for all the wonderful things he’s done in life,” she said, “and all the people he’s impacted.”
