Watch: Snooki Shares She’s Cancer-Free After Cervical Cancer Diagnosis
Constance Zimmer is looking back at a difficult chapter.
With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Love Story star reflected on navigating her private battle with breast cancer while promoting the Hulu series earlier this year.
“I never thought I’d be honoring it with my own story,” Zimmer admitted in her Oct. 4 Instagram post. “On March 13th when I was away from home—I heard these words from my doctor over Zoom: ‘You have DCIS, also referred to as Stage 0 breast cancer.'”
“The silence was deafening,” she continued. “First, I had to call my husband and get home to tell our daughter in person. The mental toll that followed was overwhelming on certain days as I began talking to many more doctors than I would’ve liked.
The 55-year-old—who shares daughter Colette Lamoureux, 18, with husband Russ Lamoureux—said the most suggested course of action would be a mastectomy, a procedure to remove all or part of her breast.
“What if that’s not what I want? What if I want to save my boob instead?” she recalled thinking. After speaking with a breast cancer surgeon, Zimmer learned she could instead undergo a lumpectomy to conserve as much healthy tissue as possible. “She was the first doctor to make me feel like what I wanted mattered and that made me weep with joy.”
“It did take 3 surgeries—3 weeks in a row, but she did it,” the Entourage alum confirmed. “She saved my breast and it looks good too!”
Around that same time, Zimmer—who plays Carolyn Bassette Kennedy‘s mom, Ann MessinaFreeman, opposite Sarah Pidgeon—noted she was also promoting Love Story, which also stars Paul Anthony Kelly, Naomi Watts, Grace Gummer and more.

“I was out on a very public press tour for Love Story, while keeping my diagnosis and treatment private,” she added. “I then followed my surgeries with radiation, while celebrating my Emmy Nomination.” (She earned a nod for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.)
Although it was a devastating journey for Zimmer, she is in a better place today.
“I’m grateful to be CANCER FREE,” she emphasized. Looking back at her journey, she concluded, “From hospital gowns to Emmy glamour, this was one hell of a ride.”
