Watch: Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts to Miss Game After “Movement in Small Blood Clot”
Jalen Hurts is taking time to recharge.
The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is sitting out of the team’s upcoming Oct. 18 match-up against the Carolina Panthers due to a blood clot in his calf, which stemmed from being cleated during the team’s game against the Los Angeles Rams Oct. 4.
“On Thursday, October 8th, Jalen visited the training room after practice requesting treatment for his calf,” the team wrote in a press release Oct. 15. “This was his first treatment session for the calf injury following the game, after having practiced in full both Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, Jalen received treatment, practiced in full, and was added to the practice report.”
By Oct. 10, an ultrasound revealed a “superficial blood clot” but doctors resolved that it wasn’t enough of an issue to sideline Hurts for the team’s Oct. 11 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Finally, another huddle-up with the Eagles’ medical professionals after the team’s return from across the pond proved that the 28-year-old does, in fact, need time off the turf to recover.
“On Wednesday night, a follow-up ultrasound revealed movement in the small blood clot,” the press statement continued. “Jalen will be out for Sunday’s game vs. the Panthers as we determine the appropriate course of treatment. His health and safety are our highest priority.”
While a small clot, or superficial thrombosis—as Hurts is currently dealing with—can resolve itself with rest, it is important the quarterback doesn’t fumble his recovery. Movement in the clot signifies it has potential to become a deep vein thrombosis, which is much more serious, according to Cleveland Clinic.
Hurts had previously addressed his calf injury in a press conference Oct. 14, calling it a “very unique experience.”

“I don’t want to get into the details of leading up to the game and whatnot,” the NFL star—who wed Bry Burrows in 2025—told reporters. “But got nicked up in the Rams game.”
But the University of Alabama alum assured he was “trying to rest” despite continuing to practice and play with his teammates over the past month.
Meanwhile, Hurts’ injury isn’t the only hurdle for the 2025 Super Bowl champs. The quarterback also addressed how the team is still working out their kinks after a three-game losing streak.
“I think this,” Hurts said. “I’ve used the words gelling, and everybody kind of building together. Being able to find that. When we go out there, over time, I think it’s important overall to just have an identity, one, and to make it less about the opponent and more about who you are.”
