Watch: Ellen DeGeneres Debuts Blonde Look a Year After Gray Hair Transformation
Ellen DeGeneres is rolling back the tapes on her TV career.
The former Ellen DeGeneres Show host—who moved to the U.K. with her wife Portia de Rossi back in 2024, two years after ending her talk show—confessed in a rare interview that she wished she was still on TV.
“I’ve nothing really going on,” she said on The Graham Norton Show’s Oct. 16 episode, per People, “and I really miss being on TV.”
“I miss a lot about it,” DeGeneres continued, “laughing with the writers and the audience. I think about doing stuff here.”
The 68-year-old went on to joke that the variety of programs on British television make her think that it wouldn’t be difficult for her to find a gig back on TV.
“I think it is pretty easy to get on TV here,” she said. “You have a pottery show, you have a sewing show, and you even have a show about people watching TV shows.”
The comedian had previously pondered the idea of hosting a talk show across the pond, though she questioned whether or not the format would still work in this day and age.
“I wish it did, because I would do the same thing here,” she told broadcaster Richard Bacon during a live conversation in Gloucestershire, England, in July 2025, according to the BBC. “I would love to do that again, but I just feel like people are watching on their phones, or people aren’t really paying attention as much to televisions, because we’re so inundated with information and entertainment.”

DeGeneres added that she was thinking about what her next career move will be “very carefully.”
“I just don’t know what that is yet,” she said at the time. “I want to have fun, I want to do something. I do like my chickens but I’m a little bit bored.”
Though DeGeneres has traded TV sets for the English countryside, she’s far from the only star to walk away from the glamour of Hollywood. Keep reading for more…

Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi have since moved to the Cotswolds, deciding to stay put in November 2024 after Donald Trump‘s reelection, the talk show host told to Richard Bacon in a July 2025 conversation at the Everyman theater in Cheltenham.”It’s absolutely beautiful,” she gushed about the English countryside, per the BBC. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture—everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”It’s clean,” Ellen continued. “Everything here is just better—the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here. We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”
