Watch: Suki Waterhouse Reveals Daughter’s Batman-Inspired Nickname for Robert Pattinson
Matt Reeves is tending to his personal life.
DC Studios revealed that production on the highly-anticipated The Batman Part II film has been paused in light of unforeseen circumstances in the director’s family.
“Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” a DC Studios spokesperson told Deadline in an Oct. 5 statement. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”
E! News has reached out to representatives at DC Studios’ parent company Warner Bros. Discovery but has not yet heard back.
The Batman Part II—which sees Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell reprising their iconic roles alongside newcomers Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan and Brian Tyree Henry—began filming in London this past June following a yearslong development process.
Currently, the film is set to hit theaters in February 2028, six years after Reeves’ original The Batman movie grossed over $770.3 million globally in 2022.
And while many details surrounding the forthcoming movie in the franchise have yet to be seen, Reeves—who shares son Andrew with wife Melinda Wang—previously shared how the project will connect to the world fans are living in today.
“There’s just tremendous division, the way that the world gets its information, its news. Everybody is in their own silo,” he told Esquire in 2024. “That sense of the environment of today, where it’s just very easy for people to be completely separate and at complete odds—that’s definitely one of the things that we’re looking at in Gotham.”
“Some of that is just the way that society is, but some of that is intentional,” he added, “and to the degree that that’s intentional, and how that fits into the larger picture of what the motivations behind that might be, that’s one of the things that we’re exploring as well.”

The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director also shed light on how the movie-making business became an early escape from the highs and lows in his personal life.
“I just love movies so much,” he explained. “Getting that bug as a kid, expressing myself, and having a place to tell stories, it was really an escape from the craziness of growing up, my family, all this kind of stuff.”
And the filmmaker can’t wait to one day pass the baton to the next generation of film buffs.
“When I was growing up, movies were so important,” he continued. “And now we have to fight to make sure that movies and streaming content—whatever we want to call it, shows—can connect to people so that the next generation can be just as inspired to tell stories. I just hope that that happens, because I’m excited to see what stories younger people have. I want them to tell it with passion.”
