Rick Ross Arrested, Charged With Battery by Strangulation

Watch: Rick Ross Arrested, Charged With Battery by Strangulation

Rick Ross is facing legal trouble.

The “Hustlin” rapper was arrested Oct. 1 in Miami on domestic violence charges, according to jail records viewed by E! News.

Ross (real name William Leonard Roberts II) was booked at the Miami-Dade County jail just after 6 a.m. local time Oct. 1. The 50-year-old was charged with battery by strangulation and held with a $5,000 bond.

Shortly after his arrest, Ross’ attorneys Steve Sadow and Bradley Horenstein said he was being “wrongly accused by an ex-girlfriend whose motivations remain unclear.”

“The ex did not even file a police report until a month after the claimed incident allegedly took place,” the attorneys added in their statement to E! News. “Mr. Roberts is innocent and has pled not guilty to the charges. He respectfully requests that his friends, fans and the general public not prejudge the situation and allow the judicial process to run its course.”

A hearing has been set for Oct. 22.

Ross’ arrest comes amid a busy time for the artist. In July, he released his 12th studio album Set in Stone, which he said came from a new perspective compared to his prior work. As he explained in an interview with the Joe Budden Network at the time, he had a “half a billion-dollar mindset now.”

A month earlier, he stepped out at the BET Awards, where he performed a medley of “Ever Since U Left Me” and “Minks in Miami” alongside French Montana and Max B.

At the time, Ross shared a glimpse into how he’s overcome obstacles in his career, which he detailed in his book Renaissance of a Boss, which he also released earlier this year.

“It’s really about how to recharge yourself,” he told LA’s Real 92.3 on the carpet. “Me being in the game 20 years, continuing to challenge yourself, you got to realize you’re going to face humps. You’re going to face challenges, but you got to continue to be amazing.”

As he put it, “I keep pulling that off.”
