Watch: Michael Douglas Broke Up With 5 Women After Going Public With Catherine Zeta-Jones Romance
Michael Douglas is on one helluva roll with his confessions.
In his new memoir One Helluva Ride, out now, the Wall Street actor revealed he had a tense interaction with Julia Roberts following her exchange with his then-13-year-old son Cameron during a Golden Globes party in the early ‘90s.
“We were at the bar, and Julia had her arm around my son, kind of nuzzling him,” Douglas, who shares Cameron with ex-wife Diandra Luker, wrote in the book. “To me, in that moment, he looked stunned…but I was pretty drunk.”
What was meant to be an innocent exchanged quickly went south as Douglas recalled saying, “Take your hands off my son and take that Golden Globe and stick it where the sun don’t shine.” (Roberts won her first Golden Globe in 1990 for her supporting role in Steel Magnolias)
The following morning, Douglas—who was working as a producer on Roberts’ 1990 horror film Flatliners—was horrified after he received a call from his producing partner, who had heard about the incident. As he wrote, “I’d crossed a line with the most in-demand young actress in Hollywood.”
In an attempt to mend their working relationship, Douglas revealed he sent the Pretty Woman star a bouquet of roses, followed by an in-person apology to her and then-fiancé Kiefer Sutherland, who also starred in the film.
“Luckily, they forgave me enough to get through that and finish the picture,” he writes. “I remained friends with Kiefer. Julia, not so much.”

But the run-in with Roberts wouldn’t be the only bombshell confession in Douglas’ memoir. After all, the 82-year-old also admitted to having an affair with Kathleen Turner while the pair were filming their 1984 movie Romancing the Stone.
But as Douglas—who was still married to Luker at the time—recalled, he shifted his priorities after the producer visited the film’s set with their son.
“Even though Diandra and I were having major problems in our relationship, we had our own son to think about,” Douglas explained. “After that visit, Kathleen and I ended things, and I went back to Diandra.”

“I did it for Cameron, but we shouldn’t have gotten back together,” he continued. “After that first split it was never the same between us ever again.”
Though he and Luker divorced in 2000, Douglas and Turner decided to move forward as colleagues after signing on for 1985’s The Jewel of the Nile, the sequel to Romancing the Stone. After all, he married Catherine Zeta-Jones—with whom he shares kids Dylan, 26, and Carys, 22—that same year.
“As we sat across from each other, rebuilding the movie, it felt a little like we were also repairing things between us, finally getting over everything that had come before,” Douglas—who revised the film’s script alongside Turner—wrote. “Trading pages back and forth, negotiating over lines, laughing at scenes and picturing our characters going at each other in every way imaginable… It felt good knowing we were back on solid ground.”
