Watch: Sink Your Teeth Into ‘Vampire Diaries’ Costars Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley’s Next Project Together
Steve R. McQueen is sinking his teeth back into the Vampire Diaries.
The actor, who played Jeremy Gilbert in the Nina Dobrev-led series, made his first public appearance in seven years at the Forever Mystic Falls Fan Meet in Paris Oct. 3.
In photos shared to social media, McQueen sported a buzzcut, jeans and a flannel button up shirt, sweetly signing posters from the beloved vampire series for fans as well as posing for photos. In his return to the spotlight, McQueen also had the support of his coven including Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Kat Graham were also present at the fan fest, as well as The Originals star Riley Voelkel.
And trust, even fans who weren’t in Paris to meet McQueen thought his latest outing was fang-tastic.
“Seeing videos of Steve McQueen at the TVD event is making me feel so maternal,” one fan wrote on X, “I will punch anyone who says something bad about him.”
Another added, “I just want to give him a hug and tell him that it’s okay.”
Indeed, McQueen’s latest appearance comes after a difficult few years following the passing of his father Chad McQueen in 2024. Although McQueen previously shared in an interview shortly after he made his acting debut in Everwood that he and his father—who was also dad to two kids with wife Jeanie Galbraith—did not have a stereotypical relationship, he emphasized their bond.
“It’s all good,” he told the New York Post in 2005. “My stepdad has been more like a biological dad in my life. I’m pretty close with my biological dad, but I think of him more like an uncle. It’s a good relationship.”

But McQueen—whose mom Stacey Toten tied the knot with Luc Robitaille in 1992—had already begun stepping back from Hollywood prior to the loss of his dad. After his 2015 exit from The Vampire Diaries, the 38-year-old continued to star in Chicago Fire until 2018 before taking a final role on an episode of The Warrant in 2020.
Meanwhile, McQueen—whose grandfather was legendary actor Steve McQueen—isn’t the only one of his costars to leave acting behind. Somerhalder recently shared that he decided to retire from acting following the frustrating process of creating V Wars for Netflix in 2019.
“I looked at myself in the mirror and I said to my wife, ‘I’m 40 years old, I don’t want to spend two years of my life, doing something, working this hard, one year fully unpaid,’” he detailed during an appearance on the Haley on the Go podcast in July. “I’m not gonna base my life on having television or streaming executives dictate how I can make a living. So, I pulled the plug. That was it. I walked away. I said, ‘I’m not gonna do this.’”

Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi have since moved to the Cotswolds, deciding to stay put in November 2024 after Donald Trump‘s reelection, the talk show host told to Richard Bacon in a July 2025 conversation at the Everyman theater in Cheltenham.”It’s absolutely beautiful,” she gushed about the English countryside, per the BBC. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture—everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”It’s clean,” Ellen continued. “Everything here is just better—the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here. We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”
