Watch: All of Collin Gosselin’s Abuse Claims About Mom Kate Gosselin
Warning: This article contains allegations of child abuse.
Kate Gosselin is not keeping silent.
The Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum spoke out days after her estranged son Collin Gosselin released In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, a memoir in which the 22-year-old accused Kate of verbal and physical abuse before he was placed in a mental health facility at age 11.
Responding to a supporter’s comment calling out “terrible lies” circulating on social media since the book’s release, Kate, 51, wrote on TikTok, “Thank you so much. I know logical ppl or anyone who has dealt with mental illness understands what’s going on here.”
When another fan claimed that Collin—one of Kate and ex-husband Jon Gosselin‘s sextuplets—was “encouraged and enabled by other dysfunctional and mentally ill people” to write his memoir, Kate wrote back, “Exactly! I had nothing to do with it, except for consent because it was medically necessary.”
In the past, Kate has called Collin’s allegations of abuse “ridiculous” and defended her decision to send him to a mental health clinic as a tween.
“My son Collin, whom I love with all my heart, has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years,” the former TLC star wrote on Instagram in 2023. “For the safety of myself, his brothers and sisters and for his own well-being, he was placed in a facility following years of outpatient treatment which proved insufficient for his needs.”
“Collin’s distorted perception of reality is one of the many issues that he has always struggled with,” she continued at the time. “Unfortunately, I believe Collin remains a very troubled young man who continues to need a lot of help. His brothers and sisters and I have not been directly involved in his life due to his history of unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies towards us.”

However, Collin has maintained the facility didn’t help at all, alleging in his memoir that he was medicated and physically restrained throughout his 21-month stay. The Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test star wrote that he was discharged after smuggling a letter to his dad Jon, who was awarded custody of Collin in 2018.
So, will Collin and Kate will ever reconcile? “I’m a big believer that actions speak louder than words,” he recently told E! News. “And while we can say what we want to say, you have to back that up. And there’s a lot of accountability that has to be taken on her part.”
He added, “I’ve done my due diligence, I’ve put everything out there, and she’s yet to come forward and take accountability for what she’s done.”
