“This was your dream… not hers.” Mubi has finally revealed their official trailer for the indie film titled A Long Winter, the latest film from director Andrew Haigh. This has been premiering at film festivals this fall and opens in theaters this December. Set high in the mountains of Colorado in the 1950s, fall comes to an end and a family prepares for the long winter ahead. Fred Hechinger stars as Mikey, who watches as his family slowly comes undone in Andrew Haigh’s beautiful yet forbidding 1950s-set tale of disappearance and growth, adapted from a Colm Tóibín story. This simple premise grows into something unexpected and rich in the hands of filmmaker Andrew Haigh (whose work includes the acclaimed 45 Years and All of Us Strangers), blossoming into a subtly observed tale of emotional growth & sexual awakening, its beautiful yet forbidding landscape captured in ravishing cinematography by André Turpin. With precise period detail and riveting performances, A Long Winter continues Haigh’s ongoing search for the private spaces & unspoken longings that exist between us. Starring Fred Hechinger, Kit Connor, Caitríona Balfe, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Martin Freeman. It’s worth a look.

“Something lost. Something found.” High in the stark Mountain West in the early 1950s, older son Mikey (Fred Hechinger) watches as his family slowly comes undone. After his brother Tommy (Kit Connor) heads off to fight in the Korean War, his mother (Caitríona Balfe) begins to exhibit the signs of depression and disenchantment with his coal miner father (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and with her provincial, isolated life. One day, during a blinding snowstorm, she disappears into the wild, leaving her son and husband to both search for her and fend for themselves. A Long Winter is both written and directed by acclaimed British filmmaker Andrew Haigh, director of the films Greek Pete, Weekend, 45 Years, Lean on Pete, and All of Us Strangers previously, and episodes of the series “Looking”, “The OA”, “The North Water”. Adapted from a Colm Tóibín story. Produced by Michael Elliott, Michael Frislev, Tristan Goligher, Andrew Haigh, and Chad Oakes. This initially premiered at the 2026 Telluride & Toronto & Zurich Film Festivals this fall. Mubi debut Andrew Haigh’s film A Long Winter in select US theaters starting on December 4th, 2026 this fall.
