Watch: Anne Hathaway Reveals Spicy Verity Book Detail They Had to Keep
Josh Hartnett’s kids aren’t enlisted in his infantry of movie fans just yet.
In fact, the Pearl Harbor actor revealed that his and his wife Tasmin Egerton’s four kids have yet to watch any project from his nearly three-decade career.
“My kids have never seen me in anything,” Hartnett told E! News in an exclusive interview at the Sept. 29 New York City premiere of his new movie Verity. “I like it that way. I think it’s healthy.”
Plus, the 48-year-old—who stars in the Colleen Hoover thriller alongside Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson—admitted that much of his work isn’t necessarily made for younger audiences.
Still, he acknowledged that his kids—who are between the ages of 11 and 2, but whose names haven’t been publicly revealed—might want to watch his work “at some point,” just not any time soon.
“I know some of their friends have seen me in movies, but [my kids] haven’t shown that much interest,” the Black Hawk Down star continued. “They’re like, ‘It’s daddy’s work.’ But they’re just living their lives and they’re happy with their own stuff.”
Noting he’s “just dad” to his little ones, he added, “They want to show me what they’re doing. That’s what I’m doing.”
But Hartnett’s kids aren’t the only ones keeping his work separate from their family life. Indeed, the Trap actor—who lives in the English countryside with his family to stave off Hollywood’s influence on their lives—has worked to implement his own boundaries, especially when it comes to leaving the darker storylines from his projects out of the house.

“It’s easier for me than it used to be when I was younger,” he explained. “I just developed techniques for all of work that it doesn’t have to stick with me for a long time. There are, of course, certain scenes that are stickier than other scenes, especially ones that are incredibly intense. But I figured out how to leave my work at work.”
After all, as Hartnett sees it, “When you have a lot of kids, you can’t bring it home. You can’t do that. So, I had to learn not to.”

Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi have since moved to the Cotswolds, deciding to stay put in November 2024 after Donald Trump‘s reelection, the talk show host told to Richard Bacon in a July 2025 conversation at the Everyman theater in Cheltenham.”It’s absolutely beautiful,” she gushed about the English countryside, per the BBC. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture—everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”It’s clean,” Ellen continued. “Everything here is just better—the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here. We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”
