Watch: Hailee Steinfeld Reveals How Motherhood Deepened Her Connection to Disney’s ‘Hexed’
Kelly Stafford may not actually put on pads when husband Matthew Stafford leads his Los Angeles Rams down the field, but she’d argue she still takes quite the beating.
“It’s not the easiest watching this sport in general,” The Morning After podcaster admitted to E! News in 2025, “especially when you have a loved one on that field.”
So while she and her daughters—twins Sawyer and Chandler, 9, plus Hunter, 8, and Tyler, 6—were going crazy as quarterback Matthew, 38, helped take the Rams to overtime against the Buffalo Bills Oct. 12, she was stressed about more than just scoring another win.
“At the end of the day, I want my husband to be who he was when I met him and married him after he’s done and helping me raise these girls,” she explained of feeling herself full body clench each time the University of Georgia alum is sacked. “Body parts I can handle, I’m like, ‘OK, well, you broke something, whatever. We’ll figure it out.’ I worry about the head, because it’s the one people push through and they shouldn’t.”
Because for all the focus on concussion protocol, a player is going to take more hits to the head “the longer they play,” said Kelly. And with her husband—2009’s top draft pick—competing in his 18th season, “That is very heavy on my heart every time I go to the game. It’s part of the reason why I get so nervous.”
Similarly, Matthew’s week five opponent, Bills QB Josh Allen, was competing for more than just himself.
With actress wife Hailee Steinfeld welcoming their daughter Harper months before the season kicked off, “It’s going to be obviously a lot of FaceTimes, a lot of calls,” the 30-year-old predicted to E! News in July of his game plan. “I don’t want to miss anything.”
Same, same, noted Hailee, who was captured playing cheerleader as the Bills bested the Rams in overtime.
“His job is on such a strict schedule,” she explained to Variety last October. “I try to organize my time so I can be where he is.”
And with Josh taking the field just down the road from their L.A. spread, she continued, “This time of year, I get to hunker down, slow down, support him and live life.”
Of course, she and Kelly aren’t the only partners who are part of the squad. Check out the teammates the NFL’s QBs call their real-life MVPs.
