Vibrant Trailer for ‘5 Centimeters Per Second’ Live-Action Anime Movie​

“I’m searching everywhere for that feeling I seem to have lost.” GKids has revealed an official trailer for the movie called 5 Centimeters Per Second, another new live-action anime adaptation this year. Hirokazu Koreeda just made his own live-action version of the anime Look Back, which recently premiered (and it’s amazing). The original 5 Centimeters Per Second anime film, directed by Makoto Shinkai, originally opened back in 2007. This live-action version is very similar, basically another shot-for-shot update. In the movie, Takaki tells the story of his life as changing times test his romantic feelings. The poignant exploration of growing up and past connections is brought to life this time by director Yoshiyuki Okuyama. 5 Centimeters Per Second is a remarkably beautiful tribute to the way mere moments can come to define our lives. This version stars Hokuto Matsumura as Takaki, Mitsuki Takahata, Nana Mori, and Mai Kiryû. This is a very simple trailer but it teases the vibrant style and story taking us through all these moments in Takaki’s life that are so important to him. I just hope it’s as good as the Look Back movie. Out in the US this October.

After transferring to the same elementary school, Takaki and Akari become fast friends, bonding over the constant upheaval of moving from town to town. Just as their feelings for each other start to blossom, their shared happiness comes to an end when both of their families are forced to relocate. As the seasons change, Takaki and Akari begin to wonder if they will ever be able to see each other again, and share their secret feelings. 5 Centimeters Per Second, also known as 秒速5センチメートル, is directed by Japanese filmmaker Yoshiyuki Okayama, director of the film At the Bench previously. The screenplay is written by Fumiko Suzuki. Adapted from Makoto Shinkai’s anime film 5 Centimeters Per Second first released in 2007. Produced by Hiromasa Tamai; made by CoMix Wave Films, Fuji TV, and Toho. This first opened in Japan in theaters there in October 2025.
