A Behind-the-Scenes Video on ‘Possible Love’ with Lee Chang-dong

Possible Love Behind-the-Scenes

“Does the film I’m making mean something cinematically?” Netflix has revealed a behind-the-scenes promo video for the excellent Korean film Possible Love, the latest feature made by the acclaimed filmmaker Lee Chang-dong. An extensive 10 minute video with Lee Chang-dong discussing the making of it. I’ve seen it and it’s a terrific film! This is his first new film in 8 years since last making Burning. The story follows two married couples — a laid-off worker and his wife, and a documentary filmmaker and her husband — whose paths cross when the filmmaker sets out to film them, bringing them face to face with their different lives & hidden desires. These complex emotional entanglements challenge their relationships and force the group to confront uncomfortable truths about love & commitment. Starring Jeon Do-yeon as Mi-ok, Sul Kyung-gu as Ho-seok, Zo In-sung as Sang-woo, and Cho Yeo-jeong as Ye-ji. This premiered at the 2026 Venice Film Festival and also played at TIFF to fantastic reviews from critics (here’s my full review). This featurette covers so many areas – from the story to the actors to the performances to the themes, and what he wants us to take away from it. A 10-mins masterclass from a master filmmaker on his latest work of cinema. Enjoy.

Here’s the behind-the-scenes featurette for Lee Chang-dong’s latest film Possible Love, from YouTube:

Lee Chang-dong’s film Possible Love follows the intertwined relationship of two married couples facing different paths and hidden desires. Mi-ok (Jeon Do-yeon) lives quietly with her laid-off husband Ho-seok (Sul Kyung-gu) and young son Cheol until a funeral brings them right into the orbit of Ye-ji (Cho Yeo-jeong), a documentary filmmaker chronicling laid-off workers, and her husband Sang-woo (Zo In-sung) — a couple whose affluent lifestyle stands in sharp contrast to their own. When Mi-ok agrees to be filmed, she grows close to Ye-ji – and finds herself uneasily drawn to the unreadable Sang-woo. As their worlds collide, fractures begin to appear in their daily existence. Possible Love is directed by the acclaimed Korean writer / filmmaker Lee Chang-dong, director of the movies Green Fish, Peppermint Candy, Oasis, Secret Sunshine, Poetry, and Burning previously. The screenplay is written by Lee Chang-dong & Jungmi Oh. It’s produced by Lee Joon-dong, David Levine, Chadwick Prichard. This just premiered at the 2026 Venice Film Festival this fall. Netflix will then release Lee Chang-dong’s Possible Love film in select US theaters starting October 23rd, 2026 this fall, followed by a Netflix debut on November 6th coming up. Ready to watch?
