Watch: Michael Douglas Confesses to Affair With Kathleen Turner After Decades of Rumors
Kathleen Turner is well aware that she and Michael Douglas had a fatal attraction.
After the Wall Street actor revealed in his upcoming memoir One Helluva Ride that he and the Body Heat actress had an affair while filming their 1984 film Romancing the Stone, Turner spoke out about the confession.
“Good heavens what a fuss about something 40 years ago!” Turner, 72, told People in an Oct. 2 statement. “I love Michael and I look forward to enjoying the book.”
In the memoir, Douglas—who was separated but still legally married to Diandra Luker at the time—revealed that he and Turner had an affair while filming the 1980s blockbuster in Mexico, though they denied romance rumors for years.
“The truth is that during the production of Romancing the Stone, Kathleen and I fell hard for each other and began a relationship,” he wrote in the book, which hits shelves Oct 6, according to an excerpt published by People. “It wasn’t a fly-by night affair; it grew naturally from how closely we were working together, how much pressure we were under, how much we respected and cared for one another, and how attracted we were to each other.”
The affair continued until Luker visited the movie’s set in Mexico, bringing her and Douglas’ son Cameron Douglas with her.
“Diandra grew suspicious. A woman’s intuition, I suppose,” Douglas wrote. “At some point, she was alone with Kathleen and made it clear to her that we were still married. Her view of the terms of our separation was different from mine. This gave Kathleen pause. She didn’t want to interfere.”

After the confrontation, the Fatal Attraction star shared he attempted to mend his relationship with Luker for the sake of their son.
“Even though Diandra and I were having major problems in our relationship, we had our own son to think about,” Douglas—also dad to kids Dylan Douglas, 26, and Carys Douglas,22, with Zeta-Jones—explained. “After that visit, Kathleen and I ended things, and I went back to Diandra.”
“I did it for Cameron, but we shouldn’t have gotten back together,” he continued. “After that first split it was never the same between us ever again.”

Though Luker would eventually file for divorce in 1995, that didn’t necessarily mean that Douglas and Turner—mom to daughter Rachel Ann Weiss, 38, with ex-husband Jay Weiss—would pick up where they left off.
After all, the pair finally confronted any unresolved feelings after signing on for 1985’s The Jewel of the Nile, the sequel to Romancing the Stone, where they were able to move forward as colleagues.
“As we sat across from each other, rebuilding the movie, it felt a little like we were also repairing things between us, finally getting over everything that had come before,” Douglas—who revised the film’s script alongside Turner—wrote. “Trading pages back and forth, negotiating over lines, laughing at scenes and picturing our characters going at each other in every way imaginable… It felt good knowing we were back on solid ground.”
