Watch: Josh O’Connor Calls Sex Scenes With Co-Stars Zendaya and Mike Faist the “Least Sexy Thing”
Mike Faist felt the challenge of being in the public eye.
The Challengers star admitted that he felt the need to take a break after the 2024 movie—which costarred Zendaya and Josh O’Connor—in an effort to help himself find his footing after rising so quickly in the spotlight thanks to his role in the tennis film, as well as his roles in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway and Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story.
“It became very apparent to me, there’s a moment of just needing to recalibrate probably for myself,” Faist shared with GQ in an interview published Sept. 30. “There’s so much noise in this industry and in the world.”
“I think a lot of people will do one thing and then they double down and they get onto the next thing. They want this momentum,” he continued. “I don’t think that I have that kind of stamina. I’m not necessarily a marathon runner.”
The 34-year-old also confessed that he struggled with “the public gaze” as he and his Challengers costars promoted their film all over the world, which changed the way he interacted with those around him day-to-day.
“Before, you’re able to walk outside, you’re able to go to your neighborhood coffee shop, able to chat with your normal person, and you could kind of be whoever you wanted to be,” Faist explained. “I really loved operating in the world with anonymity and being able to talk to strangers without them knowing who I was, because for some reason that was an ability for me to be even more honest with them.”

“Then after, it’s like, they point and they say, ‘Oh, you’re the guy,’” he added. “You’re like, ‘I guess I’ll wear a hat now.’”
And while he is proud of his upcoming project—Netflix’s East of Eden miniseries—he is nervous about all the attention once more.
“This is the part that I don’t know how to do,” the Broadway star said. “The truth is, it’s a lot easier for me to put on a character and be in front of the world than be me.”

Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi have since moved to the Cotswolds, deciding to stay put in November 2024 after Donald Trump‘s reelection, the talk show host told to Richard Bacon in a July 2025 conversation at the Everyman theater in Cheltenham.”It’s absolutely beautiful,” she gushed about the English countryside, per the BBC. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture—everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”It’s clean,” Ellen continued. “Everything here is just better—the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here. We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”
