Watch: J Balvin and Girlfriend Valentina Ferrer Break Up After Nearly 10 Years Together
J Balvin will always be in Valentina Ferrer’s corner.
Days after the actress confirmed she and the reggaeton superstar had ended their relationship of nearly a decade, she turned 33—and her ex was among those celebrating another year around the sun.
“Today I celebrate your life, Vale,” Balvin wrote on Instagram in a Sept. 19 post translated from Spanish. “I celebrate the woman you are—your light, your strength, the way you love, your wisdom and that heart of yours that makes life more beautiful for those fortunate enough to know you.”
Alongside a trio of photos including a throwback and including a throwback and a snap of Ferrer with their 5-year-old son Rio, he continued, “Thank you for giving me the greatest gift in life: Río. Watching you be his mom is one of the things I admire most about you. There are people who deserve all the flowers—not just for what they do, but for who they are. And today, all the flowers are for you.”
“May God watch over you, bless you, and return to you, multiplied, all the love and light you give,” the 41-year-old concluded the post. “Happy birthday, Vale.”

Just days earlier, Ferrer shared that she and Balvin (real name José Álvaro Osorio Balvín) had decided to end their relationship. And as she emphasized, the former couple, who began dating in 2017, were putting their son first as they embarked on a new chapter.
“It was a decision made out of love, respect and the desire to do what is best for our family,” she explained. “Our priority will be continuing to be there for Rio with all our love.”
Though the “Ay Vamos” kept many aspects of his relationship with Ferrer—and their life with Rio—out of the spotlight, he previously shared insight into his parenting style. Specifically, the biggest lesson he wants his son to learn from him.
“I don’t want him to be the best of something, I want him to enjoy what he does and be happy,” J Balvin told E! News in 2023. “That’s my number one rule. Because once you’re a happy person, it makes life feel better.”
