TGS 2026 is in full swing right now, and we’ve been able to go hands-on with a bunch of upcoming Switch 2 games, including a selection from every outlet’s Publisher of the Year*.

The show is running from Thursday 17th to Monday 21st September (although an approaching typhoon has led the organisers to cancel the final day of the event on Monday, unfortunately), so you’re likely to see impressions of various games appearing in the coming days and weeks.

For now, though, let’s sit back and find out our roving reporter Gemma Smith’s specific impressions of Capcom’s offering at Tokyo Game Show this year…

Monster Hunter Wilds (Switch 2 – 4th December 2026)

Tokyo Game Show 2026

Monster Hunter, to me, has always thrived on portable systems. I first got into the series by playing 3 Ultimate on the 3DS and have continued to play handheld whenever possible. I even got myself a PS Portal for the launch of Wilds last year, so I am certainly glad to see it coming to Switch 2 this December.

For this session, I got to play for an hour in handheld mode. I had a look through the settings, and the demo was set by default to cap at 30fps. I played my first hunt against a Rathian with this setting on, and a second fight with Lagiacrus uncapped, and didn’t notice any huge differences or issues.

I was pleasantly surprised with how well the game ran, especially during combat. Monster Hunter can be very fast-paced with a lot going on, and I had a blast. It’s Wilds as you know and love, with the bonus of having it portable.

One great addition for the Switch 2 version is local play support as well as crossplay. There’s even a Switch 2 Wilds bundle releasing in Japan, which I’d love to see come out overseas, too.

Capcom also recently confirmed that the upcoming Ascendance expansion is coming to Switch 2 in 2027. I got my claws stuck into the PS5 version at TGS and have a preview over on our sister site, Push Square.
