Why Anne Hathaway’s Doctor Forbid Her From Doing Hot Ones Challenge

The decision for her character to appear on the interview series in the film was actually an idea that came from Hathaway. The 43-year-old imagined that having Verity take part in real-life press tour staples like Hot Ones andAlex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy, as well as have an interview with GayleKing, would help establish the character “as an iconic cultural figure,” noting it felt like “Triple Crown trifecta” of interviews. 

But whether she would actually eat the hot wings during her movie interview became “a big conversation.”

“My feeling—because I’ve never done it before, I’ve never done the 10-piece gauntlet—you don’t want your first kiss ever in your life to be an onscreen kiss,” she explained. “You want that to be a real thing where you’re not playing a character at the same time as experiencing something physically.”

“I did the first three wings for real,” she added, “and then I switched into dummy wings.”

For now, Hathaway—who also shares sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6, with Shulman—is keeping her focus on her family life and her kids.

“I just feel very lucky,” the Princess Diaries actress told People in April. “I know that not everybody who wants to be a parent gets to be. I’m just blown away by how fortunate I am.”
