35 years of speed and counting
As we heard in a recent story, there have been “good times, and there have been bad times” for blue blur, and right now Sonic the Hedgehog‘s future seems rather bright with another live-action movie on the horizon and more video games guaranteed to follow.
Of course, a bit like Nintendo and Super Mario, Sega is always working on what’s next for Sonic, and in a new interview with Japanese outlet 4Gamer, it seems we might have got the first proper update from the Sonic Team about the next major project.
According to comments made by Sonic boss Takashi Iizuka at the Tokyo Game Show last week, a new Sonic title is currently in development (thanks for the heads up, My Nintendo News). Unfortunately, the team can’t go into specifics just yet, but Iizuka believes there is plenty the team can do to evolve the series. Here’s part of what he had to say via machine translation:
“We’ll be creating a whole new kind of gameplay experience through various approaches—from characters and story to game systems—so please stay tuned and look forward to it.”
Iizuka also used Sonic Colors as an example of how Sonic’s gameplay has evolved, with certain aspects such as “Color Powers” significantly changing how the series is played. And he believes there’s room to build upon the systemic evolution pioneered in the latest game, Sonic Frontiers.
