“Those scratches never, ever go away.” So be careful handling film! 🎞️ Now playing in theaters worldwide is Christopher Nolan’s latest epic movie The Odyssey, filmed entirely on 70mm IMAX film and presented in 70mm around the world. Now that the film is actually out, more videos have been appearing showing the actual work that goes into handling, managing, building, and projecting film in cinemas. Has this become a lost art? Hopefully not. This video is created by the YouTuber known as “Radioactive Drew” (who usually makes videos about finding radioactive places) who also works as a projectionist. He shows us an inside look at his work building a 70mm film print (non-IMAX) and getting it rigged for the projector, then threading and running the Christie 70mm film projector at this theater. Drew’s intro: “I was hired to setup and project the 70mm Film version of The Odyssey at the Regal Bridgeport Village in Tigard, Oregon. Here’s what I had to do to build the print and get everything ready to show it to the audience.” It’s a homemade video that is just this guy walking us through his job. But always fascinating to see the projection process from the booth.

The Odyssey follows Odysseus (Matt Damon), the legendary Greek king of Ithaca, on his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. Depicting encounters with mythical beings such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe, culminating in his long-awaited reunion with his wife, Penelope. The Odyssey is directed by the acclaimed, Oscar-winning British filmmaker Christopher Nolan, director of the movies Following, Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet, and Oppenheimer previously. The screenplay is also by Christopher Nolan, adapted from the iconic ancient Greek epic poem Odyssey attributed to Homer. With cinematography by Hoyte van Hoytema, and music composed by Ludwig Göransson. It’s produced by Emma Thomas & Christopher Nolan through their own company Syncopy. Universal Pictures will release Nolan’s The Odyssey in theaters worldwide starting on July 17th, 2026 this summer. It’s playing everywhere now.
