Watch: Paul Wesley Reveals Why He and Nina Dobrev Didn’t Get Along on ‘The Vampire Diaries’
Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley are bringing their onscreen chemistry back from the dead.
The former Vampire Diaries costars confirmed they are set to team back up for an upcoming TV series based on the popular book You Deserve to Know by Aggie Blum Thompson.
“I’ve been waiting to share this one,” Dobrev wrote on Instagram June 25. “We fell in love with this novel and getting to help shape its adaptation from both sides of the camera has been incredibly exciting.”
The 37-year-old also teased her and Wesley’s undying bond, writing on her Instagram Stories, “Some things refuse to stay buried.”
In addition to leading the Hulu TV series’ cast, Dobrev and Wesley—who will play two opposing neighbors in the midst of a murder investigation—will serve as executive producers alongside Thompson, Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper and her husband Matt Kaplan, Mina Lefevre as well as Kapital Entertainment’s Aaron Kaplan.
For his part, Wesley, 43, also shared his excitement to join his former onscreen love interest.
“Secrets out!” he wrote on Instagram. “Thrilled to be partnering again with @nina both on screen and as executive producers on ‘You Deserve to Know.’”
But Wesley and Dobrev haven’t always been the greatest collaborators. After all, he previously admitted that the pair “notoriously butted heads” during the early days of The Vampire Diaries.

“Long story short, I was taking the role very seriously,” he said during a September episode of the Podcrushed podcast. “She was taking the role very seriously. We were all young actors, and we could tell this was gonna be special.”
The Smallville actor added, “We just conflicted, not about our personalities offscreen, it was more onscreen. The way in which she wanted to do a scene was not the way in which I wanted to do a scene.”
However, Wesley and Dobrev were able to outgrow their tension. In fact, he even hinted on their new project during his podcast appearance.
“The irony is that now we’re such good friends,” Wesley emphasized, “and we actually had a few things that we were dabbling with maybe doing something together.”
