Off the back of the recent film, excitement surrounding the Backrooms creepypasta is at an all-time high, and that’s now translated into making Escape the Backrooms the best-selling PS5 game in the USA and Europe last month on Sony’s digital storefront.
Yes, for the month of June 2026, Escape the Bathrooms outsold all new releases on the PS Store, and even performed better than the likes of 007 First Light.
It’s an online co-op game for up to four players where the idea is to escape the backrooms together, utilising proximity chat. “Be warned, as teammates may no-clip into other areas of the map and every member of your team must find the exit alive to escape.”
You can get it for £9.99 / $12.99 on the PS Store, and it’s managed to top the PS Store downloads chart for June. Here it is in action:
If you look at the European PS Store chart specifically, there’s actually a second backrooms experience in the top 20.
Backrooms: Escape Together, which looks to offer a similar experience for up to five online players, was Europe’s 18th best-selling game last month.
June 2026 was a very quiet month for new PS5 releases, but still, to put the game into context, Escape the Backrooms outsold 007 First Light, UFC 6, Gothic 1 Remake, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and all Call of Duty games.
That’s quite the achievement for an indie title.
