Nintendo announced the new prices in May
Earlier this year, Nintendo announced sweeping price hikes for the Switch 2, and while the new prices have already been applied in Japan, this will not hit Western markets until 1st September 2026.
The North American market is just weeks away from this increase, and in the US, Nintendo fans have noticed in-store kiosks are now advertising the new price of $499.99. Here’s the message, which appears on screen between demo sessions (this was spotted at a Walmart and shared on the Nintendo Switch 2 subreddit):
“The suggested retail price of the Nintendo Switch 2 system will increase to $499.99 on September 1. *Actual price may vary”
As documented by Nintendo, the Switch 2’s current price in this market is $449.99, so you’re looking at a $50.00 increase. You can see the price bumps in other markets in our previous coverage.
These price hikes aren’t isolated to Nintendo’s platforms, with other hardware manufacturers including Sony, Microsoft and Valve also bumping up the costs of their own systems in recent months and years due to “uncertainties” of component prices, and ongoing shortages.
Nintendo previously said it wasn’t willing to rule out further Switch 2 price increases. The company’s latest financial report last week revealed the new system has now sold a total of 23.68 million units worldwide (as of 30th June 2026). Although there has been a decrease in first-quarter sales year-on-year, the adoption rate of the new unit is still outpacing the original Switch.
