Sir Idris Elba Has Been Awarded a Knighthood

Iconic English actor, DJ, and rapper Sir Idris Elba was awarded his knighthood from King Charles at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, reports the BBC. Elba’s knighthood was previously announced at the end of 2025, as part of the 2026 New Year Honours.

The 53-year-old award-winning star, who rose to prominence for his stints as Stringer Bell in HBO’s The Wire and DCI John Luther in the BBC One series Luther, received the honours for services to young people. In 2022, Elba founded the Elba Hope Foundation.

It’s previously been announced that Elba is currently partnering with King Charles to create a Netflix documentary to mark 50 years since King Charles established the King’s Trust. At 18, Elba attended the National Youth Music Theatre using a grant from the charity, which was formerly known as the Prince’s Trust.

Prior to that, however, you’ll be able to catch Sir Idris Elba starring as Man-at-Arms in this month’s Masters of the Universe.
