Seth Rollins was pushed as the top heel in WWE last year when he aligned with Paul Heyman to defeat Roman Reigns and CM Punk in the main event of WrestleMania 41. Seth then joined forces with Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed to create The Vision, which helped propel him to a world title win over Punk at SummerSlam. His championship reign came to an abrupt end in October when he suffered a shoulder injury at Crown Jewel that required surgery.
At the time, WWE wrote Rollins off TV with an angle where The Vision turned on him, which made him a de facto babyface. That’s the spot he is in now while seeking revenge on Heyman and Breakker. However, in an interview on ESPN’s Highlights with Omar, Seth admitted that he’s not long for this role.
“The truth is, I’m not very good at being the hero. I can do it in short spurts, but I’m not like [John] Cena. I’m not like Rey Mysterio. I get bored of myself, and I think people get bored of me. I much prefer being a bad guy. I think it suits me better. Most of my favorite moments are being a piece of trash.”
There’s no shame in falling short of Cena and Mysterio’s standard, as they are two of the best babyfaces in pro wrestling history. There’s also the fact that Vince McMahon’s terrible booking killed off one of Seth’s babyface runs in spectacular fashion back with the worst match of the year in 2019. However, it’s hard to argue with the main point Rollins makes about how he’s usually much more interesting when playing the bad guy.
