Here’s what the critics had to say

This week, the Kingdom Hearts series returns to Nintendo’s platforms, and this time, it’s the proper experience with no drawbacks.
The reviews are now rolling in for the native Switch 2 version of the Kingdom Hearts Collection, and so far, the reception is mostly positive. Here’s the rundown, and if you haven’t seen our own mini-reviews here on the site just yet, we’ve already sent a few live (with more on the way):
So, here’s what the critics had to say about the Switch 2 version:
Nintendo World Report – 9.5/10: “To Nintendo fans who haven’t experienced Kingdom Hearts in its full splendor, this is an incredible time to jump in. These games are largely excellent action RPGs that are jam-packed with an out-there emotional story filled with oodles of Disney and Square Enix references”

Final Weapon – 4.5/5: “Overall, the Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] is in mostly great shape. Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX- is basically flawless, Dream Drop Distance HD runs great, and the cutscene compilations are all in good shape. However, frame rate inconsistencies in 0.2 and Kingdom Hearts III are a bit of a blemish on what is otherwise a phenomenal package.”
Nintendo Wire – 9.0/10: “For Nintendo fans who’ve perhaps never given these games a go, my highest recommendation would go to the collective package of Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, and Birth by Sleep. Kingdom Hearts III comes in at a close second, and while I was thoroughly impressed by Dream Drop Distance, the 2.8 package is easily the weakest portion of the I-III collection.”
Siliconera – 9/10: “The Kingdom Hearts Collection [I-III] Switch 2 compilation is a great way to play and experience the events of 10 games in the series. It also feels especially great to dive into ahead of Kingdom Hearts 4 next year. The performance on all the titles selected is generally great, with them tending to perform well on the system. I will note that Kingdom Hearts 3 does feel like sometimes it does run at lower frame rates than the other installments during certain sections. But as a whole, this is a very worthwhile selection of games.”
Nintendo Everything – 5/5: “After years of being scattered across consoles and handhelds, Kingdom Hearts has finally found a proper home, and on Nintendo hardware – plus this time, you don’t need an internet connection to find your way there. It’s not merely that Kingdom Hearts runs on Nintendo Switch 2 – it feels like it belongs there.”
