“Oh I get it now, it’s like tennis… but easy.” Apple TV has revealed their official trailer for a fun new sports comedy movie called The Dink, one of the first ever major productions about the now super popular sport known as pickleball. The Dink is the latest from comedy director Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, Strays, Will & Harper) though it will be skipping theaters and heading directly to Apple TV in July soon this summer. A washed-up tennis pro must learn to accept and appreciate and even play some pickleball in this new comedy movie. The cast includes Jake Johnson, Ben Stiller, Chloe Fineman, Christine Taylor, Patton Oswalt, Martin Kove, Mary Steenburgen, Chris Parnell, Aaron Chen, with Ed Harris as well as former tennis players Andy Roddick and John McEnroe. The Dink is a laugh-out-loud underdog story from producer Ben Stiller, directed by Josh Greenbaum from a script written by Sean Clements. This looks amusing with a few laughs but nothing special. Anyone enjoy playing pickleball?
Here’s the first official trailer for Josh Greenbaum’s comedy The Dink, direct from Apple TV’s YouTube:

Washed up former tennis prodigy Dusty Boyd (Jake Johnson) has been reduced to coaching unruly kids at his father Chuck’s (Ed Harris) suburban country club. Desperate for his father’s approval, Dusty blindly supports Chuck’s vendetta against the new craze taking over the tennis club: pickleball. But when Dusty reaggravates an old injury, taking away his ability to play tennis, he resorts to the unthinkable in the name of rehab. He not only tries pickleball, but, thanks in part to his enchanting new partner, Candace (Mary Steenburgen), he finds himself actually enjoying it. Torn between two worlds, Dusty is forced to finally face the ghosts of his past athletic failures, including his childhood nemesis, Andy Roddick (Andy Roddick). Ultimately, Dusty is drawn into a desperate battle for the future of the club, his father’s affection and his very identity. The Dink is directed by American producer / filmmaker Josh Greenbaum, director of the films Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, Strays, and Will & Harper, plus lots of other TV (“New Girl”, “Fresh Off the Boat”) and shorts previously. The screenplay is written by Sean Clements. Produced by Ben Stiller, John Lesher, Rob Paris, Mike Witherill, Jake Johnson. Apple releases Greenbaum’s The Dink sports comedy streaming on Apple TV starting soon July 24th, 2026 this summer. Who wants to watch?
