Pete Davidson is keeping up his love for Kim Kardashian.

Four years after the Saturday Night Live alum and SKIMS founder broke up following nine months of dating, he shared a glimpse into the ups and downs of their romance.

“That’s a really tough atmosphere if you’re not game,” Davidson told Variety in an interview published Sept. 30. “One of the things I love about Kim and that whole family is they’re like, ‘This is what we do.’ I found that very attractive and mature.”

After deciding they were better as friends, the comedian—dad to 9-month-old daughter Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidsonwith ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt—emphasized that he and Kardashian are still on good terms.

“We’re cool,” he said. “I have a lot of love for her, and I knew what I was getting into.”

But Davidson—who has been candid about his mental health problems and sobriety journey—admitted that being thrust into that spotlight was a challenging experience.

“I was never subjected to anything I didn’t want to be a part of,” he added. “She was super respectful of all of it, but the craze of that lifestyle—being followed everywhere, having security and looking over your shoulder—for a guy with mental stuff, and at the time drug problems, was a little too much for me.”

Particularly difficult, however, was navigating the wrath of Kardashian’s ex-husband Kanye“Ye“ West.

Along with a barrage of online hate messages from the rapper—who shares kids North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 7, with the Kardashians star—West even depicted a clay version of Davidson being kidnapped and beheaded in his “Eazy” music video.

“What tripped me out is I was super open about mental stuff—everyone knows this about me —and it’s like he was [saying], ‘Kill yourself,'” the Bupkis star recalled. “And he did push me.”

The 32-year-old, who was the first person to date the reality star after she and West split, jokingly posited that he did Kardashian—now dating Lewis Hamilton—a service by dealing with West’s tantrums.

“I like to think I got that one out of the way for her because whoever that guy was going to be was gonna get it,” he added. “I cleared the path for her to get back into the dating pool.”

Despite the hate he received from the “Stronger” rapper, Davidson still has empathy for his circumstances.

“What people don’t understand about that dude,” he began, “and I’m not one-one-millionth as talented or influential or powerful as that dude, but I have dealt with a fraction of what he’s had to deal with public-wise—is that’ll do it.”

“He’s also lost a parent and has mental stuff, and I don’t know how he deals with it or who he has around him,” he continued. “Probably a lot of people who want to be his friend. I’ve had that. When people are so far up your ass and constantly pushing and provoking you and not showing you love, you want to burn it all.”
