Watch: Tearful Peta Murgatroyd, Maksim Chmerkovskiy Detail Major Move From Los Angeles to Florida
Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are dancing through life in their new home.
Nearly two months after the Dancing With the Stars alums moved their family from Los Angeles to Florida, Murgatroyd shared an update on their experience living in the Sunshine State so far.
“We’ve always loved Florida [and] we’ve always loved the lifestyle here,” she said in a since-expired video posted to her Instagram Stories Aug. 21, per Us Weekly. “We fell in love with Boca because it has everything [and] the best of everything.”
Noting they’re “really close to Miami,” Murgatroyd shared, “We have the beach, like, 11 minutes from my house, really top-rated schools, amazing sports for the boys.”
As she put it, the family is living a “great lifestyle.”
And while the professional dancer—who shares Shai, 9, Rio, 3, and Milan, 2, with Chmerkovskiy—shared that friends have been telling her they’re “gonna come back to Cali,” she admitted that California “will always be a home of ours because we lived there for 20 years.”
That said, Murgatroyd emphasized that “right now, this is what our fam needs,” adding, “We are loving every second. It’s the best.”
And since the move, the 40-year-old has already observed notable differences between Los Angeles and the family’s new home in Boca Raton, which is less than an hour from Miami.
“I would say convenience is key here,” she continued in her video. “Everything is within a five-minute drive. There’s a CVS or Walgreens on every corner ‘cause it’s in blocks with the communities. I love it. At this stage of my life with three boys, I’m about convenience.”
Another one of her favorite parts of life in Florida so far? The “very sweet” and “really nice” community in their neighborhood, with Murgatroyd sharing that her kids have already been invited on playdates.
“In our community, that’s all I wanted. I wanted Shai to have the childhood that I had and I can see it happening,” she explained. “He has playdates, he has boys knocking on our door, saying, ‘Hey come play, let’s go ride our bikes.’ It’s the best thing for me, and it’s all I want. I’m so happy.”

Although Murgatroyd and Chmerkovskiy are loving their new home, their goodbye to Los Angeles was a tearful one.
After announcing their move in June, Murgatroyd shared a video of herself and her husband of nine years becoming emotional while driving away from L.A.
“Something new is never easy,” she wrote in a June 29 Instagram post. “There are tears you don’t expect, goodbyes that hit harder than you imagined, and moments where you wonder if you’re making the right decision.”

Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi have since moved to the Cotswolds, deciding to stay put in November 2024 after Donald Trump‘s reelection, the talk show host told to Richard Bacon in a July 2025 conversation at the Everyman theater in Cheltenham.”It’s absolutely beautiful,” she gushed about the English countryside, per the BBC. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture—everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”It’s clean,” Ellen continued. “Everything here is just better—the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here. We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”
