New Promo Trailer for Sung Kang’s ‘Drifter’ Movie About Drift Racing​

“It’s not about skill… it’s about trust.” IGN revealed a brand new official trailer for Drifter recently – which is directed by actor Sung Kang and also stars Kang in the lead role. Still no final release date yet, but it’s expected by the end of the year. He’s best known for playing Han in the Fast & Furious movies ever since 2006, a character he first portrayed in Better Luck Tomorrow. This is his own new movie about drift racing called Drifter, in which he plays a talented driver who finally gets a chance to prove himself. A lonely janitor discovers purpose and community when he enters the world of competitive drift racing. Sung Kang stars as Tree, with a cast including Tamara Braun, Gregory Cruz, Emelia Hartford, Shane Johnson, James Pumphrey, and Michael Nehring. We already posted the first teaser trailer a few months ago, keeping an eye out for more. Kang explains a major goal with the film was to create a love letter to the car community, saying he felt “traditionally, films have not respected the car community in the way I see [it].” Have a look.

In a forgotten desert town, a solitary racetrack janitor named Tree (Sung Kang) with a gift for drifting is haunted by his tragic past. Given a single chance to compete at a pro drifting event, he discovers his raw talent is useless without the one thing that he’s always avoided: connection with others. Under a hardened mentor, he must learn to trust his found family and transform his untamed, lonely art into a dangerous dance of partnership, or be consumed and controlled by the past that he’s desperate to escape. Drifter is directed by Korean-American actor / filmmaker Sung Kang, director of the film Shaky Shivers previously, now making his second feature. The screenplay is written by Ted Chung, Sung Kang, Aaron Strongoni. Produced by Ted Chung, Brian Yang, Sung Kang. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know.
