Watch: Joy Behar Misses ‘The View’ After Major Injury
Joy Behar’s current view is from a place of rest.
The View co-host, who has taken on Whoopi Goldberg’s role during her hiatus, unexpectedly missed the Oct. 1 episode of the morning talk program after suffering a backstage injury, so fellow co-host Sunny Hostin stepped in as moderator for Behar.
“Whoopi is still out filming a movie,” Hostin, joined by Ana Navarro, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and guest host Sherri Shepherd, told the audience at the beginning of the broadcast. “And, unfortunately, our dear friend Joy dislocated her shoulder.”
And while the View audience was audibly shocked at Behar’s injury, Hostin confirmed, “She is recovering and will be back soon.”
As for when viewers can expect Behar to return? The 83-year-old’s rep told Page Six in a statement that she “caught a heel backstage” but is “on the mend and should be back on the show mid next week.”
“Her shoulder wasn’t broken and is back in place,” the rep continued, “and she is excited to be back at the table as quickly as possible.”
Behar’s current absence isn’t the first time audiences have missed her this year. She was absent for two weeks over the summer while she traveled to Europe to work on her play My First Ex-Husband, which she addressed before taking the break from the show.

“There’s been a lot of media attention on me lately because I’m taking off the next two weeks,” she said on TheView in May. “They’re calling it a hiatus. It’s not a hiatus.”
The comedian—who has been on the talk show since it began in 1997, except for a two-year hiatus starting in 2013—also missed the program in January for multiple days, prompting Goldberg to address the absence.
“We want to let you know Joy is out, she’s not feeling well,” she told viewers, “so we want her to feel better and get her behind back here.”
Meanwhile, a foot injury in November prompted her to take another unexpected break from the show.
“Now, I’ve been off for a few days as you might have noticed,” Behar said on The View upon her return. “Here’s what happened: I dropped my iPad on my foot and I broke my toe.”
Showing her bandaged toes to the audience, she added, “What they do is they put the toes together, because it’s broken. And it’s very, very, very painful. I do not recommend you dropping anything on your toes.”
