Watch: Joe Jonas Details Boat Accident That Was So Terrifying He Immediately Called Daughters
Joe Jonas is sharing how a scary experience made him think about what’s most important in life: his daughters.
The Jonas Brothers member—who shares Willa, 6, and Delphine, 4, with ex-wife Sophie Turner—detailed a harrowing incident that occurred during a recent vacation in Italy, in which he accidentally fell in the “rocky” water while trying to get from a yacht to a tender boat.
“I take a step,” Jonas recalled on the Sept. 23 episode of The Morgan Stewart Show, “but as I take a step, a wave came in and it pushed the boat far out from the yacht.”
“It sounds like the bougiest problem, but it was terrifying,” he told Morgan Stewart,“because I slipped and fell between these two boats.”
As for Stewart—who saw the horror unfold in person—recalled worrying that Jonas was going to get hurt or hit by a boat.
“I was like, ‘Vacation’s over. Vacation’s over,’” she explained. “It’s going to hit him in the head, and we’re going to lose a Jonas Brother.”
After he had fallen in, Jonas said the first mate attempted to intervene and grab him, but the crew member “also fell in.”
“We’re between these boats,” he recalled. “We’re fully dressed, my phone’s in my pocket, everything. And I come up, I’m so out of it. I’m just like, ‘What the f–k just happened?’”
Realizing he needed to “get away” from the boats, the “Burnin’ Up” singer swam over to the tender boat.
“The first time I climbed up, I must have hit my shin or something,” Jonas said. “And then I fell back in.”

On his second try, the “Cake By the Ocean” artist “rolled onto” the boat “soaking wet.”
“In those moments,” Jonas shared, “your adrenaline’s going so fast.”
After the incident, everyone kept asking him if he was alright, to which he assured he was “fine.”
But about a couple hours later at the restaurant, the emotional impact of his terrifying experience hit him at once.
“I finally came down from that anxiousness and I looked at [Tatiana Gabriela],” Jonas recalled of his girlfriend. “I was like, ‘That s–t was really scary. That really spooked me for a while. It was really intense.”

And Jonas’ first thought was that he needed to speak to his kids “right away.”
“I just need to call them. I need to see them,” he recalled saying. “I need to see their faces.”
“All I thought about was,” he added, “I want to speak to them.”
Ultimately, the “Listen When Sad” singer noted that he’s relieved that it was “the best outcome of a bad situation,” adding that it “could have been really bad.”
“Life moves so fast and it’s so easy that something really bad can happen,” Jonas emphasized, “if don’t have your awareness about you.”
