After Dynamite ended on Wednesday night (July 22), AEW head honcho Tony Khan went live online with some of the promotion’s weekend plans. Collision actually taped after Dynamite, but won’t air until Saturday. AEW’s new Redemption PPV is Sunday night in Montreal.
Khan had Mistico factored into those plans, but the lucha libre superstar also has a contract with CMLL, and injuries he sustained last Friday night in Arena Mexico meant he wasn’t cleared to work for AEW this week. TK hopes to have Mistico back for when AEW returns to Mexico City for Grand Slam in a couple weeks, but he’s off the deck for now.
After thinking out loud about how Mistico would be a great opponent for the winner of Sunday’s International title match between Bandido and Kyle Fletcher, Khan revealed his plan to determine a future International title challenger. Redemption will feature a six-man ladder match for a shot at the belt currently in Fletcher’s possession, and Speedball Mike Bailey, Jack Perry, The Beast Mortos, and Komander already have spots.
The final two will be decided by Collision qualifiers pitting Nick Wayne against AR Fox, and Lio Rush against El Clon. Saturday’s show will also feature the wrestlers in Redemption’s two women’s title matches teaming up as World champ Thekla and TBS champ Hikaru Shida take on Willow Nightingale and Maya World.
Earlier on Dynamite, The Bang Bang Gang and The Dogs had their latest run-in after Jay White’s first singles match in a looong time ended in victory over Clark Connors. White and Juice Robinson later challenged them to a double-chain match…
…and TK later made it official, and specified it would be Connors and David Finlay representing The Dogs.
