Watch: Hayden Panettiere Dead at 36

New details about Hayden Panettiere‘s heartbreaking death are beginning to emerge.

Authorities have confirmed that the Heroes actress was pronounced dead in Greenville, South Carolina, just before 2 p.m. local time on Aug. 16, after police and Emergency Medical Services responded to a report of an “unresponsive female.”

“Upon arrival, medical assistance was administered,” a spokesperson for the Greenville Police Department said in a statement obtained by People Aug. 17, “however, the individual, later identified as Hayden Panettiere, was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

“The case is under investigation by the Greenville Police Department in conjunction with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office,” the department added. “The preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances.”

The spokesperson also confirmed that an “acquaintance of Ms. Panettiere” placed the 911 call.

E! News has reached out to Panettiere’s rep and authorities for comment and has not yet heard back.

Panettiere’s team and her dad Skip Panettiere announced her untimely passing on Aug. 16, days before her 37th birthday.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,” Skip shared in a statement obtained by ABC News. “She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her—and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”

Prior to her death, Panettiere—who is survived by daughter Kaya, with ex-fiancé Wladimir Klitschko—released her memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning, in which she shared candid details about her battle with postpartum depression, addiction, as well as the 2023 death of her brother, Jansen Panettiere.

“It’s all the time,” the Remember the Titans actress told E! News in May. “It just evolves, especially with a sibling and being the older sibling. You’re just riddled with guilt that you didn’t do your job.”

“I miss him all the time,” she added. “I didn’t think I would have to do life without him, but I’m grateful that I had the time I had with him.”

Through it all, Panettiere said, she tried to stay in tune with herself.

“I do have a great therapist, but I’m always checking in with myself,” she explained, “being self-aware, being surrounded by healthy people who bring out the best in me, just trying to keep in touch with myself and what’s going on.”

“I had no idea that you could say no for a very, very long time,” she added. “I’m an empath, so if I make somebody feel uncomfortable or disappointed or upset, I feel it myself. I don’t want to let anybody down. But now I’m putting up more personal boundaries.”
