Saurav Gurjar, a professional wrestler known to WWE fans as “Sanga” during his tenure in the company, was recently arrested on sexual exploitation charges in India.
The Times of India on Monday (September 21) reported Gurjar “was arrested by Gachibowli police at Mumbai airport for allegedly sexually exploiting a 29-year-old woman on the promise of marriage.” The outlet added the 40-year-old wrestler “was sent to 14-day judicial remand on Sunday.”
Indian media has noted that the allegations against Gurjar are still under investigation and have not yet been established in court.
Gurjar, who is also known for acting in films such as Mahabharat and Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva, signed with WWE in early 2018 and spent some time in NXT, where he teamed with Rinku (later known as “Veer Mahaan”) in the tag team Indus Sher. In 2023, the duo were called up to the main roster to compete on Raw and was associated with Jinder Mahal for a period of time, but Gurjar and Veer were released by WWE the following year.
The Hindustan Times reported Gurjar was taken into custody by officials at the airport in Mumbai on September 17 after a woman came to police on August 15. According to The Times of India, the woman told police she first connected with Gurjar on Instagram in 2021 and met him later that year. According to her complaint, the two soon began a five-year relationship that continued between the United States and India.
“During the course of our relationship, the accused disclosed that he was already married. He repeatedly promised to give me wife-like rights and eventually settle down with me,” the woman, whose has identity was not made public, said in the complaint, per The Times of India.
The woman also reportedly said the star would avoid her for periods of time, and she also claimed she quit her job in order to be with him.
“He used to block me on the phone/social media and disappear without any prior information,” the woman’s complaint stated, according to The Times of India. “I suffered mental harassment, emotional distress and financial loss, including losing my job after I left my employment in the U.S. to stay with him.”
“She claimed to have relocated with the expectation that they would settle together. But the accused again failed to honor his assurances. He allegedly continued the relationship by making false promises of marriage and subjected her to harassment and sexually exploited her,” Gachibowli police said in a report.
The Times of India wrote that police registered a case against Gurjar under Section 69 of India’s criminal code, which includes “sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means.”
