President Donald Trump is bringing some serious SEC star power to Georgia. Former Georgia Bulldogs superstar and NFL All-Pro running back Todd Gurley hopped aboard Air Force One with Trump on Friday as the president headed to Dalton for a campaign rally ahead of November’s midterm elections.
Not a bad upgrade from his days of flying private in the NFL.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Gurley joined Trump for the trip to his home state. The former NFL star photographed alongside the president as they stepped off Air Force One at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta.
Gurley, in case you forgot, was an absolute monster at Georgia. He rushed for 3,285 yards and 36 touchdowns in three seasons before becoming the 10th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He went on to become a three-time Pro Bowler and the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2017 with the Los Angeles Rams.
And he’s hardly the first Bulldog to find himself in Trump’s orbit.
Current Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton appeared alongside Trump at a February rally in Rome, Georgia, where the president gave him a shout-out onstage.
Then there’s Georgia legend Herschel Walker, whom Trump backed in his unsuccessful 2022 Senate campaign against Democrat Raphael Warnock. Walker eventually landed a different gig courtesy of Trump: U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas.
Apparently, being a Georgia football star doesn’t hurt your chances of getting some face time with the president.

Friday’s rally is Trump’s third Georgia visit this year, with Republican Senate candidate Mike Collins and gubernatorial nominee Rick Jackson joining the president as Republicans look to energize voters ahead of the Nov. 3 Election Day.
I will say that it’s refreshing to see so many former and current professional athletes unafraid to show support for President Trump and the Republican party. As Clay Travis said on X responding to this news, “So many pro athletes are over the anti-Trump bulls***. Good for Todd Gurley.” It’s true. Many athletes have been scared into silence for years. But not anymore.
Gurley energized crowds with his electric play while at Georgia, so it’ll be interesting to see what he can do behind the podium.
