First Trailer for ‘Sister Brother Manhole Cover’ Macedonian Comedy

“You can’t go anywhere now.” Banana Film debuted the first promo trailer for a dark comedy titled Sister Brother Manhole Cover, the new feature film from North Macedonian filmmaker Milcho Manchevski. This one is premiering at the 2026 Tokyo Film Festival coming up this fall, and they’ve launched a trailer to build some buzz for its unveiling. This dark centers on siblings Malina and Viktor, a sister & brother barely getting by at the edges of Macedonian society. To keep going, the pair sell bronze busts & manhole covers. Their chaotic path eventually brings them to a wealthy elderly woman who is blind. Her mix of hardness & kindness makes them re-examine their own sense of right & wrong, and see what it means to be devoted to another. Starring Sara Klimoska, Filip Trajkovikj, Sonja Mihajlova. “Our anti-heroes defiantly refuse to identify as victims,” explains Manchevski. It’s “a story of great love and unconditional acceptance that is not erotic.” This looks very funky and entirely original, and hopefully as enjoyable as it promises it might be.

Here’s the festival trailer for Milcho Manchevski’s film Sister Brother Manhole Cover, from YouTube:

Malina and Viktor (Sara Klimoska and Filip Trajkovic), a brother and sister duo, steal bronze busts for a living. One day, the heavy bronze head-and-shoulders of a national hero slips out of Viktor’s hands and crushes his foot. When the doctor arrives to treat his injury, he demands sexual favors as payment. That’s when Viktor picks up a heavy manhole cover that was lying in the house. Sister Brother Manhole Cover (also titled Сестра, брат и шахта) is written & directed by Macedonian filmmaker Milcho Manchevski, director of the films Before the Rain, Dust, Shadows, Mothers, Bikini Moon, Willow (2019), Kaymak, and Good People previously, plus other short films. Produced by Jane Kortoshev. This is premiering soon at the 2026 Tokyo Film Festival this fall. No other release dates are set yet – stay tuned for more news. Any good?
