This is real, this is Camp Rock 3.

Over 15 years after fans’ last trip to Camp Rock, Liamani, Malachi Barton and the Jonas Brothers proved music is still in everyone’s souls in the premiere of the franchise’s newest installment which hit Disney Channel Aug. 13.

In the new film, Connect 3 decides to return to Camp Rock to pick a new opener for their upcoming tour—hoping to capture the magic they once felt as campers.

But while the new film lets band members Jason Grey (Kevin Jonas), Shane Grey (Joe Jonas) and Nate Grey (Nick Jonas) take the backseat to introduce the next generation of campers, including Sage (Liamani), Fletch (Barton), Desi (Hudson Stone), Rosie (Lumi Pollack) and Cliff (Casey Trotter), there are plenty of Easter eggs for the original fans to rock on.

Demi Lovato’s Mitchie Torres may only make a brief cameo at the end of the film, but references to her character are sprinkled all throughout the movie. For one, Mitchie’s mom Connie (Maria Canals-Barrera) has remained at Camp Rock all these years later—working her way up from the kitchen to running the camp entirely.

At one point, Connie even has a heart-to-heart with Sage after the teen happens to find Mitchie’s songbook in the floorboards of her cabin. Luckily this time, Sage uses her songbook for inspiration—rather than revealing any deep, dark secrets to the entire camp like Tess (Meaghan Jette Martin) does in the first film.

But speaking of Tess, new villain Madison (Ava Jean) takes so much after the OG antagonist, she even spills out her catchphrase and ultimately recognizable gesture of “Whatever Major Loser” during the craft room fight in the new film.

Meanwhile, Madison’s cronies Daniel (Orlando Lucas) and Danielle (Ella Lucas) are perfect replicas to Tess’ backup singers Ella (Anna Maria Perez de Taglé) and Margaret “Peggy” Dupree (Jasmine Richards). Unfortunately for Daniel and Danielle, though, neither of them stand up to Madison in the end or win Final Jam to recreate Peggy’s formative character arc in the first film. (However, they do perfectly master the art of the “Too Cool” shoulder shrugs during their audition to open for Connect 3).

And on top of all the subtle nods and remixes of beloved Camp Rock songs like “We Rock,” “Play My Music” and “It’s On,” some characters even repeat lines from the original movies word-for-word.

When Connect 3 makes their grand appearance at The Final Jam to pick their opener, a member from the audience mimics Shane’s most famous line from the first movie by yelling, “That’s Shane Grey for crying out loud!”

And later, Mitchie gives Sage her ultimate stamp of approval by repeating the now-iconic compliment she paid Caitlyn Geller (Alyston Stoner) in Camp Rock. Following Sage’s Final Jam performance, she uses the same descriptor for Caitlyn’s DJ skills, exclaiming, “She’s really good.”

Joe JonasHe was Shane Gray for crying out loud! The Jonas Brothers’ lead singer took on the leading man role in Camp Rock, playing the aforementioned moody rocker (which he loves to remind fans of by recreating scenes).After the group disbanded in 2013, most expected Joe to launch a solo career—especially after being the first to release an individual album pre-split. Instead, he found success with his band DNCE and their major hit “Cake By the Ocean.”Plus there was that whole Jonas Brothers rebirth.Joe had romances with Taylor Swift and Gigi Hadid before he began dating Game of Thrones‘ Sophie Turner in 2016. Demi LovatoAfter starring as camp newcomer Mitchie Torres, Demi would go on to front her own Disney Channel series, Sonny With a Chance, for two years.Demi’s music career took off after saying goodbye to the network, releasing hit singles such as “Confident,” “Sorry, Not Sorry” and “Cool for the Summer”—and seven studio albums. She also served as a judge on The X Factor, and guest-starred on Glee and Will & Grace.The pop star got engaged to actor Max Ehrich in July 2020, but the pair split two months later. Nick JonasWhile the youngest member of the band took on a supporting role as drummer Nate Gray in the two films, Nick would be the only brother to go on to have an acting career, starring in the gritty MMA drama Kingdom and Fox’s Scream Queens. He also starred in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, one of 2017’s highest-grossing movies, and returned for the 2019 sequel. Kevin Jonas”Yeah man, this is where Connect 3…connected.”The eldest Jonas played Jason Gray, one-third of the movie’s hit band and a Camp Rock enthusiast. Alyson StonerAfter their breakout in Step Up and Cheaper by the Dozen and a recurring role on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Alyson took on the part of aspiring producer and dancer Caitlyn Gellar. Anna Maria Perez de TagleIn addition to camper Ella Pador, Anna Maria was also known for her role as Ashley Dewitt on the network’s hit series Hannah Montana. After Final Jam, the actress went on to guest star on Baby Daddy and the CW’s Charmed reboot, and she starred in the 2011 Broadway revival of Godspell. In 2019, the former Disney star married Scott Kline Jr., with Orange Is the New Black‘s Uzo Aduba serving as her maid of honor. The couple welcomed daughter Amelia Grace in June 2021.

Jordan FrancisThe Canadian rapper and actor played breakdancer Barron James in both Camp Rock movies. He is now working as a songwriter, producer and choreographer. Jasmine RichardsThe Canadian singer co-starred as Margaret “Peggy” Dupree in both Camp Rock movies, which followed her run on the TV series Naturally, Sadie. Daniel FathersThe English actor and screenwriter, who played Brown Cesario, the owner of the camp, has gone on to appear in hit TV shows such as 90210, Orphan Black, Reign, Atlanta and House of the Dragon. Daniel also appeared in Netflix’s 2017 movie A Christmas Prince and 2025’s The Last Supper.
