CM Punk recently underwent a dramatic body transformation that’s left many wrestling fans wondering how he seemingly became more muscular than he’s ever been at the age of 47.
The change in his appearance first began in the run-up to WrestleMania 42, but images circulating on social media showed he continued to get more and more jacked in the weeks following his main event loss to Roman Reigns.
While the increased muscle mass led to inevitable and unsubstantiated rumors of P.E.D. use, Punk has now gone into detail about he managed to get more buff when he was interviewed by Stephanie McMahon on the latest episode of her What’s Your Story? podcast.
During the interview, which dropped on Monday (July 13), Punk gave credit to Jay Ferruggia, a fitness expert who works with high-profile athletes.
“So, six weeks before WrestleMania, and I can’t really tell you what set it in motion. I know I would always see Chad Gable posting his workouts, and it’s programmed by Jay Ferruggia,” Punk said, adding he was “motivated to go into WrestleMania looking physically different, looking like, ‘Oh, wow, okay, he really busted his ass.’”
He continued: “That was my only goal. It wasn’t a weight. It wasn’t I need six pack.”
“I called up Jay, and he was like, ‘I wish you would have gotten to me sooner, man. We only got six weeks,’” Punk said. “He’s like, ‘But if you listen to me, and you do what I say, and you eat what I tell you to eat, I think we can do some damage.’ And we did. We did some damage.”
The Undisputed WWE Champion said that he doesn’t believe he was in the best shape of his life at WrestleMania and instead pointed to when he was trying to get into WWE at the age of 26.
For Punk, a “lifestyle change” resulted in the recent transformation, and he noted that for the first time in his life, he started weighing his food and counting calories.
“I eat meals that have maybe three ingredients,” he told McMahon.
Punk then went on to say that “every morning, I take a mirror selfie, I take my temperature and my weight, and I send it to Jay.” After that, Ferruggia will tell him what he needs to eat for the day.
“I really just kind of changed the way I ate and just really dialed in, buckled down.” Punk said.
However, The Best in the World said it’s not just a change in diet that helped him put on more muscle.
“To me, the gym is my therapy. I’m so dialed in that it’s the first thing I do. I wake up, and if it’s not a fasting cardio day, I eat, I go to the gym, I get it done. That’s my job,” he said. “I’m fortunate that at this age, this stage in my career, like this is my job. This is what I have to focus on.”
