Whatever happened to predictability? Because Candace Cameron Bure was certainly not expecting what she encountered after accepting one party invite from a pal.
Not shy about injecting at least a bit of spice into her 30-year marriage with former NHL right winger Valeri Bure, “I went to a party once with Val,” she detailed during the March 10 episode of The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast. “And it ended up being this underground party that was an S&M sex thing that was so dark and demonic.”
Doing a quick scan of the get-together, Candace, who’s suiting up for the fifth season of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test starting Sept. 24, felt an overwhelming urge to tell everyone to cut…it…out.
“We walked in, and my eyeballs were popping out of my head because I saw stuff I’ve never seen before in my life,” the Full House alum explained. “And I’m looking at Val, going like, ‘How are we here? What is happening?'”
The answer, for her at least, was that they were exiting stage left ASAP.
“We made a hard U-turn and walked right out of there,” she shared. “And it just was like so slimy and weird. And I was like, ‘We’re going to pause before we ever say yes to going out with that friend again.'”
That’s not to say the 50-year-old has an issue with giving her husband a heart, a hand or something else to hold onto.
When fans freaked about her posting an Instagram photo of Val copping a feel in September 2020, her response, essentially, was, how rude!
“It was so pretty out and I said, ‘Honey, let’s take a few pictures together,'” Candace recalled while discussing the incident on an episode of Confessions Of A Crappy Christian Podcast that November. “Then the very last picture he grabbed my boob, like put his hand over and it was super funny and cute. So I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is so funny, can I please post this?’ And he was like, ‘That one? Yeah okay.'”

As for the hate that followed, she continued, “I was like, ‘You know what guys? I’ve been married for 24 years. I’m a Christian, my husband’s a Christian, and I’m really proud that we’ve managed to stay married for 24 years.”
Because while their house quickly filled up as they welcomed daughter Natasha two years after their 1996 vows, followed by her little brothers Lev and Maksim, it took them a beat to find their stride in the bedroom.
“Sometimes there’s a skew about sex within the Christian community that I get really sad about,” she noted on the podcast, recalling how as a child there was so much shame around intimacy. “I lived in such a fear of ‘Oh my gosh, I’m not supposed to be a sexual person, because I have to save myself. God is going to think negatively of me if I’m having sex.'”
So even after she married Val, 52, she revealed, “For a few years, I would have sex with my husband thinking like, ‘Oh my gosh, is God looking at me and like is this bad? Is he mad?'”
And that’s not the only revelation Candace has made about her union.
Forthcoming about their struggles during the height of the pandemic-era stay-at-home orders, she’s admitted that at one point, her marriage to the Bure Family Wines founder was “going south quickly.”
But when they were lost out there and all alone, their second-born Lev (and his bible!) was waiting to carry them home, delivering a passionate sermon that left them recommitted to their union.
Her takeaway from the experience, “I think year to year you have to reevaluate what’s working, what’s not,” she explained on a November episode of the Stay True podcast. “How are the schedules changing? And you have to continually adapt to what’s new to figure out your rhythms, and the rhythms are going to keep changing.”
Particularly as your house gets fuller (son Lev and his wife Elliot Bure announced they were expecting weeks after Natasha revealed her pregnancy in May), she added, “Your marriage gets put to the test.”
“You have kids that come in and they demand all of you and then they get a little older and then they pit you against your husband,” she continued. “And you don’t even realize it.”
