Watch: Billie Eilish’s Transformation for Movie Debut in ‘The Bell Jar’ Will Hit You Hard
Billie Eilish‘s new look is everything she wanted.
The “Bad Guy” singer debuted her lightest hair transformation in years during a photo dump on Instagram Oct. 5, trading in the long, dark brown locks she had been rocking since February for shorter, strawberry blonde tresses.
In a mirror selfie, Eilish made a silly face as she showed off a golden, shoulder-length locks featuring choppy layers and a side part. The 24-year-old paired her long bob with a dark navy blue pullover, khaki pants, white DC Shoes socks and black Celine sneakers.
This is Eilish’s first blonde ‘do since her Happier Than Ever era in 2021, when she ditched her signature acid green hair.
“I couldn’t go anywhere with that hair because it was so obviously me. I wanted anonymity,” she explained of the platinum blonde look in an interview with Elle at the time. “I went to a park with a friend, and I was like, ‘No, I can’t take off my hood!’ I was terrified of the paparazzi and these stalkers I’ve had.”
However, Eilish clarified that she had “no goal of ‘This is going to make everybody think differently of me'” with the hair change.
“I’ve had different-colored hair and vibes for everything I’ve ever done,” she noted. “I wanted this album to have its own thing.”
But the Grammy winner ended up discovering that people did think of her differently as a blonde. As she told Highsnobiety one year later, “I didn’t feel sexy for one second of being blonde.”
“When I was blonde, people treated me differently,” Eilish continued. “People completely changed their demeanor.”
She added, “I think that people have taken me more seriously because I’ve had this more masculine [way of dressing] throughout my career. If I had been more feminine and girly, people would’ve been a lot less respectful of me.”

But these days, Eilish prefers to be a style chameleon. In fact, she was almost unrecognizable as she rocked 1950s attire while filming The Bell Jar in August.
And she also refuses to be boxed into just one career. “I never felt like a singer. I’ve never had that as my identity,” she told Vogue in 2024, adding of acting, “I really secretly love it.”
